Dedicated to helping my patients sleep better and live a healthier life

Dr. Steven Burman is a Diplomate of the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine (ABDSM). The ABDSM is the leading independent, not-for-profit, testing organization of dentists who treat snoring and sleep-related breathing disorders with oral appliance therapy (OAT). To earn the designation of Diplomate, dentists must complete a Mastery program, demonstrate proficiency in the area of sleep-related breathing disorders, and pass a rigorous written examination. This unique distinction recognizes commitment to exceptional patient care, ongoing continuing education, and competency in dental sleep medicine. Dr. Burman is one of a small group of professionals (less than 1,000) with this designation in the United States.

”The ABDSM credential is widely recognized as the gold standard for excellence in dental sleep medicine.”
Dr. Burman’s interest in oral appliance therapy is personal; it stems from his own diagnosis of obstructive sleep apnea. Dr. Burman began researching alternatives to CPAP and found the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine (AADSM) and never looked back! He was prescribed a mandibular positioning device which he wears every night. Almost immediately, he experienced improvement in his sleep and overall health.

“After I was diagnosed with OSA and experienced the benefits of oral appliance therapy, I became extremely motivated to help my patients achieve similar results. Improved breathing during sleep was life-changing for me and my wife no longer complains about my snoring! To have the ability to help others sleep better, and potentially live a longer, healthier life, is an incredible feeling.”

As an experienced laser user, and past president of the Academy of Laser Dentistry, Dr. Burman has extensive knowledge and skill to perform NightLase, a proven, non-invasive, non-cutting laser treatment that tightens posterior oral tissues, opening the airway and improving breathing during sleep for individuals suffering with primary snoring; it can be used in conjunction with other treatments for individuals suffering with obstructive sleep apnea.

Dr. Burman is partners with many area sleep doctors and physicians. He is a resource for their patients requiring alternative treatment with oral appliance and/or laser therapy. He is dedicated to cultivating positive relationships with his patients and their physicians to provide unparalleled care.

Education

As a senior in high school, Dr. Burman was accepted into a 7-year joint degree dental program through Adelphi University (Garden City, NY). After his third year, he matriculated to the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey – New Jersey Dental School (now Rutgers Dental School) in Newark, NJ, with a full scholarship. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in biology after his first year of dental school and completed his Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) with honors in 1993. Dr. Burman continued his education with a one-year, coveted General Practice Residency at the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (New Brunswick, NJ) and then began working in private practice. For over 20 years, Dr. Burman practiced dentistry in New Jersey focusing on patient comfort and care using advanced technology and oral-systemic health. In 2015, he relocated to Florida to help patients improve their quality of life with a more holistic approach to oral health and overall wellness.
